Handling, Installation and Care of Your New Granite Vanity Top

Congratulations on your purchase on a premium granite vanity top from Stone by Nature.

Please print a copy of this document for your reference.

Your granite vanity top will arrive shortly packed inside a custom wooden crate secured to a wooden pallet. The truck driver will unload the crate for you and ask you to sign a receipt for the vanity top.

NOTICE It is your responsibility to carefully inspect the shipment prior to signing, it is recommended that you open the crate prior to signing the receipt and check for concealed damages. Once you have signed for the vanity top we cannot make a damage claim with the carrier.

You will need a reversable drill with a phillips screwdriver bit to remove the screws securing the top of the crate; inside you will find the vanity top and backsplash. The backsplash is taped to the vanity top for security during shipping, please cut all tape prior to removing from the crate, place in a secure location. The larger vanity tops are HEAVY and require two persons to lift safely, rotate the top onto the back edge, lift and carry in a vertical position, do not carry the top in a flat position as you may cause breakage.

Please remember to carry the top carefully and avoid and flexing or banging or you will break your top, once granite has been cut it is quite fragile until secured in place on the top of your vanity and properly supported.

Installation

Place the vanity top on a padded hard surface with the polished side (top side) facing down. You will see four preset screw inserts in the granite around the sink cutout; these are for the metal retention hardware included in the sink box.

Dry fit the sink with the drain hole facing the back and test fit the retention clips, once you are confident in the fitting and installation remove the sinks and place a bead of caulking around the sink cutout to form a seal between the vanity top and the sink. Place the sink in position and check it is properly positioned on the sink cutout, there should be about 1/8 inch relief between the sink cutout and the inside edge of the sink. Place the four retention brackets in place and secure the sink in place. CAUTION DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS, this is not necessary as once the caulking dries it forms a secure bond.

Ensure your vanity cabinet is ready for installation, using two persons to carefully support and handle the vanity top place it in position on the top of the vanity cabinet and check fit. Remove the top and make any adjustments or trimming required to the cabinet with the vanity top in a safe place.

Once all fitting is complete reinstall the vanity top, check for voids between the top of the cabinet and underside of the vanity top, use shims as necessary to ensure the top is fully and consistently supported. Do not place chaulking or silicone between the vanity top and the cabinet, this will make removal difficult, once the top is installed place a bead of chaulking around the inside of the cabinet where it meets the vanity top, this will secure the top in place and allow you to remove the top if necessary.

The backsplash is placed on top of the vanity top and secured to the wall behind with an adhesive or caulking. Do not place chaulking under the backsplash.

Sidesplash are installed next, your sidesplash provided are universal and can be installed on either side. If it is necessary to trim the sidesplash for any reason they can be cut with a wet tile saw.

Caulk the seam between the backsplash and the vanity top and along the top of the backsplash and the wall behind.

All plumbing installations are standard to any vanity top installations, please use care not to overtighten any fasteners.

IMPORTANT the last step to complete your installation is to apply stone sealer to your vanity top to prevent staining and water penetration, granite is porous and will absorb any liquid including any colored materials. Stone sealer should be applied with a soft cotton cloth in a thin even layer (do not use too much) allow the sealer to penetrate for two minutes and then polish off completely. When complete you should see no film of hazing on the surface, this is very important that you do not leave the sealer on too long or you will have a greasy film on your top that is very hard to remove. (use steel wool to polish off any adhered material)

The vanity top should be resealed once per year.

Care of Granite

Granite should always be kept clean and any spills should be wiped up quickly.

Do not use harsh cleaners or acidic cleaning materials as it will damage the top and/or remove your stone sealer making your top susceptible to staining.

A soft, damp cloth with a mild detergent is best to clean your granite top and keep it looking new.

DO NOT CLIMB OR SIT ON TOP OF YOUR VANITY TOP, YOU WILL BREAK IT!
